about Homage XXe Siecle Book 38

Xxe Siecle, aka The 20th Century Review, was a magazine that was regarded as a pivotal moment in the development of a modern sensibility towards art, as well as providing artists with a whole new method of reaching their audience.

Many artists such as Chagall, Kandinsky, and Miro created lithographic reproductions of their works that were designed especially for that edition.

About The Artist: Andre Masson

French painter, b. 1896 in Balagny. The work of Andri Masson has an important place in the development of Surrealism. He began his studies before 1914, at the Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts, Brussels, and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He served in the Great War in the fighting lines, and was severely wounded. The artist creates a lithograph by drawing an image directly onto the printing element using materials like lithograph crayons or special grease pencils. After this, the drawing is transferred from the plate to the paper in multiples. A lithograph will not have dots when examined with a magnifying glass.
