About The Artist: Armando Menocal

Armando Menocal was among the most prominent Cuban painters of the 19th century, best known for his portraits, landscapes and history subjects. He studied at the Academia de San Alejandro in Havana and later taught there, mentoring generations of Cuban artists. He was influenced by the Impressionists and by the Spanish masters, whose work he saw on a trip to Madrid. In 1891, he designed the Comedy, Music and Orgy allegorical murals for the lobby...
