Arthur Boden

American (1927–2019)

About the artist:

After attending Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, where I studied painting and illustration, I continued study at The Art Students League, The New School, and Pratt Institute. This led to work in design studios and advertising firms as a layout artist, illustrator and graphic designer, followed by a position as art director at IBM. My focus gradually shifted from working as a graphic designer to expressing myself by creating acrylic paintings and prints. The Marlboro Graphics Gallery exhibited a series of my silk screen prints. This was followed by a one man show of my large acrylic paintings at the Weinger Gallery. I also designed and produced Boden’s Beasts, a children’s book of whimsical three dimensional animals hand created from ordinary household items. Boden’s Beasts was followed by Boden’s Birds and Boden’s Bugs. My acrylic paintings and prints are held in numerous private collections, Rooted in the contemporary art world, my work is characterized by vibrant color, whimsy, clarity of line and variety of subject matter. Intensive effort and discipline allows me to achieve original effects and technical acuity. The work is not technical alone: it is profoundly personal. -- Arthur Boden
