about Red Man’s Revenge

Cecil Smith's depiction of a placid river beneath a looming mountain and surrounded by dense forest appears serene until the log cabins to the right of the composition come into view.

Set ablaze by the Native Americans, the group gallops away from the burning houses and splashes through the river into the thick woods. Very realistic, the scene portrays a typical method of how American Indians exacted revenge against the white colonists occupying their land.

About The Artist: Cecil Smith

Experts in the field of Western art have called Cecil Smith "the Dean of Cowboys who are Artists" with good reason. About The Medium: Lithograph

A print created using flat stones or metal plates. The artist creates a lithograph by drawing an image directly onto the printing element using materials like lithograph crayons or special grease pencils. After this, the drawing is transferred from the plate to the paper in multiples. A lithograph will not have dots when examined with a magnifying glass.
