About the artist:

Contemporary surrealist painter of figures, animals and imaginary landscapes Cheryl Laemmle, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1947, has received a variety of awards. They include, in 1980, a Creative Artists Public Service grant; in 1984, the Vera G. List award; and, in 1985, a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work is in the collections of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City. Laemmle received her B.A. degree in 1974 from Humboldt State University, Arcata, California, and her M.F.A. degree in 1978 from Washington State University, Pullman. "New York Times" art critic, John Russell, reviewed Laemmle's work in the March 11, 1983 issue of that publication. In 1984, John White authored "Cheryl Laemmle," for the July-August issue of Metropolis M; and in 1985, Angela Vettese included Laemmle in "Europe and America: Two Aspects of the New Surreal," for the April-May issue of Flash Art. Susan Fisher Sterling and Helaine Posner authored the catalogue, "Cheryl Laemmle", for the artist's exhibition at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, in 1989.
