French artist Claude Venard used several Modern art techniques to create this energetic scene.

The harshly outlined trees are reminiscent of those seen in paintings by Gauguin and Cezanne, while the disjointed bodies of the two people recall the flowing figures of a Matisse painting. Paired with the bright colors, the whole work feels composed as a love letter to Modern Art. This piece is signed in the lower left corner and is nicely framed in a gold leaf frame.
