About the artist:
Donald Baechler was an American artist known for his deliberately naïve-looking paintings, prints, and sculptures, which featured basic forms, paired down to minimalist shapes. Born in 1956 in Hartford, Connecticut, Baechler received his BFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from the Cooper Union in New York. Baechler exhibited widely during his lifetime, participating in the Bienal de São Paulo and the Whitney Biennial and enjoying solo shows at Kunsthalle Basel and Austria’s Museum der Moderne Salzburg. Among the institutions holding his work in their collections are the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, both in New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
