Drew was a master glassblower for 37 years. Smith received degrees from both Ashland and Kent State Universities. He taught glassblowing at Columbus College of Art and Design and operated Smith Glasshouse studios in Akron, Ohio, Logan, Ohio, and at his New Heights Gallery in Tampa, Fla. Drew settled in San Diego after living in Jamaica for several years. He continued glass-blowing, sculpture, painting, and teaching in studios located in both San Diego and San Marcos, Calif., until just weeks before his passing. His blown glass and sculptural works have been exhibited at numerous locations throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan, with permanent collections in various museums, including the Corning and the Smithsonian Museums.
