Erna S. Scharff was born Erna Kuhn in Landau Germany on September 9, 1895 and died in Brooklyn, New York on March 1, 1982. She fled Nazi Germany and came to the United States in 1938/1939 with her husband Alfred (1890-1969) and her son Richard (1926-2005). According to a business card her studio was listed at 1290 Ocean Ave, Apt #5C, Brooklyn, NY telephone number 434-2660. She was known primarily for oil landscapes in a very Germanic style. Her paintings are sometimes misindentified with those by Ralph Scharff or Dollie Scharff; although her painting style is distinctively different from theirs.
