About The Artist: Fernando de Szyszlo

Fernando De Szyszlo Valdelomar (born July 5, 1925, in Lima) was a Peruvian artist who was a key figure in advancing abstract art in Latin America since the mid-1950s, and one of the leading plastic artists in Peru. He first studied painting at the School of Plastic Arts of the Catholic University of Lima. Then, in 1948 he went to Paris where he held his first exhibition the following year. About The Medium: Aquatint

An etching process in which tone is created by treating a plate with fine particles of acid resistant material (like powder resin) and then placing the plate in an acid bath. The acid bites into the plate between the grains of resin and when printed, the mass of tiny spots produces a textured area with tonal effects similar to watercolor wash.
