Francisco Moyao

Mexican (1946–2008)

About the artist:

Moyao was born in Mexico City in 1946. He has a Bachelor's and a Master's in Visual Arts with a specialization in Sculpture, as well as a Master's in Urban Art from the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas. From 1990 to 1992, he designed the project for the monumental sculpture "La Giganta". He was a professor of Visual Education and of the Sculpture and Plastic Experimentation Workshops in the Graduate Studies Division of the National School of Plastic Arts of the UNAM. He received first place in the National Salon of Plastic Arts, Sculpture Section (1979) and Alternative Spaces Section (1985), among others. He made sculptures for the Higher School of Engineering and Architecture of the National Polytechnic Institute, the Library of the Metropolitan Autonomous University Azcapotzalco Unit, the José Luis Cuevas Museum, and the Tijuana Cultural Center. Work by Francisco Moyao is also in the collections of the Monterrey Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, and the Quebec Museum of Art, Canada. He died on January 10, 2008.
