An original screenprint by Frank Stella from X + X (Ten Works by Ten Painters) published in 1964 by Wadsworth Atheneum, CT.

The print was printed by Ives-Sillman, CT and referenced in the Axsom Catalogue Raisonne as Appen. 1A. Edition size: 500. Frank Stella was a renowned American Abstract and Geometric artist best remembered for his detailed and colorful studies on the structure of parallel lines. "Untitled (Rabat)" is a gorgeous example of his practice, using bright yellow and blue lines in an alternating chevron pattern to evoke movement. At a distance, the colors blur together to reveal the vibrant green of a tropical leaf.

Frank Stella was born in Maiden, Massachusetts, studied at Phillips Academy, Andover, and then at Princeton University. Upon moving to New York City, he reacted against the expressive use of paint by most painters of the abstract expressionist movement, instead finding himself drawn towards the "flatter" surfaces of Barnett Newman's work and the "target" paintings of Jasper Johns. About The Medium: Screenprint

A stencil process employing a frame on which silk or synthetic fabric is stretched. Stencils are hand-drawn or hand-cut and placed on the stretched fabric and act as a block out when the ink passes through the screen by means of a squeegee onto the paper, the non-stencil areas create the image.
