About The Artist: Frieda Savitz

Frieda Savitz was born in New York City on December 3, 1931. She earned both her B.A. and M.A. from New York University and later studied at the University of Wisconsin, Cooper Union, and Columbia University. She has exhibited at the Smithsonian Instititute, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Chrysler Museum in Provincetown, MA, and the Brooklyn Museum. About The Medium: Screenprint

A stencil process employing a frame on which silk or synthetic fabric is stretched. Stencils are hand-drawn or hand-cut and placed on the stretched fabric and act as a block out when the ink passes through the screen by means of a squeegee onto the paper, the non-stencil areas create the image. Also known as silkscreen or serigraph.
