This print is an original color etching and aquatint by Cubist Georges Braque.

L’oiseau Multicolore was made in 1950 during the later years of his life when he was designing and creating with more colors than he ever had before. In 1954 he designed stained-glass windows for the church of Varengeville. This print is signed lower right corner and numbered in the lower left corner with pencil. Vallier 1020.

About The Artist: Georges Braque

Georges Braque was born on May 13, 1882, in Argenteuil-sur-Seine, France. He grew up in Le Havre and studied evenings at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts there from about 1897 to 1899. He left for Paris to study under a master decorator to receive his craftsman certificate in 1901. About The Medium: Aquatint

An etching process in which tone is created by treating a plate with fine particles of acid resistant material (like powder resin) and then placing the plate in an acid bath. The acid bites into the plate between the grains of resin and when printed, the mass of tiny spots produces a textured area with tonal effects similar to watercolor wash.
