About the artist:

Gilbert Newell Boyd was born in Belfast, Ireland on May 20, 1896. Boyd studied art in Ireland and England before immigrating to the U.S. and moving to California. A mechanical engineer by profession, upon retirement he taught classes at the Palo Alto Art Club for many years while maintaining a home on the Monterey Peninsula. By the mid-1950s his oils, watercolors and acrylics were winning prizes in local shows. He died in Carmel on July 14, 1981.
