An iconic print by African-American artist Hale Woodruff signed and numbered in pencil.

This print is from the second edition of 50, which was started in 1975 in a printing collaboration between Woodruff and Robert Blackburn.

About The Artist: Hale Woodruff

Hale Woodruff was a black artist who sought to express his heritage in his abstract painting. Of his artwork he said: "I think abstraction is just another kind of reality. And although you may see a realistic subject like a glass or a table or a chair, you have to transpose or transform that into a picture, and my whole feeling is that to get the specatator involved it has to extend that vision" . . ." About The Medium: Linocut

A printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used for a relief surface. A design is cut into the linoleum surface with a sharp knife, V-shaped chisel or gouge, with the raised (uncarved) areas representing a reversal (mirror image) of the parts to show printed.
