About the artist:
Hank Laventhol was a painter and master print maker, born in Philadelphia PA. He received a B.A. degree in Fine Arts from Yale University. He also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy. Trained as a sculptor, Laventhol created a varied body of work during his life time. After 1961 he committed himself solely to his art, sampling and experimenting with new media as well as subject matter. Laventhol owned two etching presses and personally printed his original limited edition prints. He was also commissioned by publishers that included Associated American Artists, New York Graphic Society, Original Print Collectorʼs Group Ltd., Georges Visat, Paris, and Pierre Chave, Vence , France. Laventhol had four one-man shows at the Whibley Gallery in London, England, in addition to solo and group shows in 12 major cities in Europe. In the United States he had four shows at the Bodley Gallery in New York City as well as many solo and group shows across America. His work is represented in corporate and private collections, museums and libraries, including the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., the Yale University Art Gallery, the Print Collection of the New York Public Library, the Free Library of Philadelphia and the Bibliotėque Nationale de France in Paris.
