Herbert W. Kapitzki (born February 24, 1925 in Gdansk - April 22, 2005 in Berlin) was a German artist and graphic designer, known for his poster art . He was also active as a type designer. Herbert W. Kapitzki studied from 1941 to 1943 in Gdansk at Fritz August Pfuhle (1978 in Berlin, 1969 in Hamburg), from 1946 to 1948 in the group of Fine Arts in the Bernsteinschule Hans Ludwig Pfeiffer and from 1949 to 1952 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart Willi Baumeister. Since 1953, Kapitzki worked as an independent designer in the field of visual communication , many years of it with a studio in Magstadt near Stuttgart. From 1956 to 1968 he worked for the State Trade Office of Baden -Württemberg - Stuttgart Design Center worked as a designer and creator . He was since 1957 several times award winner for " Best German Poster". In 1958 Kapitzki was a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI ). In 1964 , his works at the documenta in Kassel III were shown in the graphic department . He participated with his works in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany and worldwide. From 1964 to 1968 he was a lecturer ( from 1965 as director ) at the Department of Visual Communication at the Ulm School of Design . He participated in 1967 in the creation of the German Pavilion at the World Exhibition in Montreal. In 1968 he founded the Institute for Visual Communication and Design . 1969 Kapitzki was Vice President of the Federation of German Graphic Designers Association BDG . In 1970 he was appointed professor of visual communication at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, he was Deputy Director of the University in 1974 and was for some years head of department until his retirement in 1990. In 1984 he was a guest lecturer at the University of Al- Minya in Egypt. Herbert W. Kapitzki from 1970 to 1973 worked as a design lecturer at the City of Frankfurt am Main on behalf of the Historical Museum Frankfurt, from 1973 to 1975 for the corporate identity of Schering AG in Berlin and 1981 for the information system in public buildings occupied by the city of Berlin. Herbert W. Kapitzki was in 1993, a founding board member of the Association of German graphic designer VDGD eV in Stuttgart and a year later, in 1994 also co-founder of the "Forum for Urban Design. Initiative for -use -oriented design and design- relevant Science eV " in Ulm.
