About the artist:

Hippolyte Moreau was born in Dijon in 1832 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1927, was a French sculptor. Francis said Hippolyte is the second son of the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Moreau and forms in the workshop of his father. With his two brothers Auguste and Mathurin, he moved to Paris to follow the teaching of François Jouffroy at the School of Fine Arts. From 1863 to 1914 he exhibited at the Salon of French artists where he sends decorative subjects often inspired by the eighteenth century. He won a medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1878 and another at the Universal Exhibition of 1900. It mainly produces medium size pieces and decorative and everyday objects: vases, figurines, paper cutter, pockets bronze, pewter or regulates. He is the author of the statue of Alexis Claude Clairaut on one of the facades of the Hotel de Ville in Paris, rue de Lobau. Most of his works are preserved at the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon.
