About the artist:

Ira Sapir was born in Chicago, IL in 1955. For his BFA, he attended the California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland. Since graduating in the 1970s, Sapir has continued to participate in group and solo exhibitions. His pieces are featured in several private, corporate, and museum collections. He has spent his professional life mostly between the Bay Area and New York City.

His approach to sculpture is very organic, letting the physical properties of the material guide the shape of the final piece. Glass pieces in particular seem to be frozen in the middle of movement, the delicate swirls of color shaping themselves into elegant contours and crevices.
