about Noah's Ark

In this primitive-inspired rendering of the Old Testament story of Noah and his ark, Jack Hofflander depicts Noah with his family standing in front of the ark as dozens of animals in pairs descend back onto land "two-by-two".

With a double rainbow stretching across the horizon beside a shining sun, the artist shows his unique take on the legend by also incorporating dinosaurs on an island rather than the traditional unicorns.

About The Artist: Jack Hofflander

Jack Hofflander was born in Waukegan, Illinois, in 1920. During his childhood, he was already entering art contests with his pencil sketches, especially using the flora, fauna, and landscapes near Lake Michigan as his subjects. After graduation from high school in 1938, he studied “life drawing” at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. During World War II he was in the Special Services Branch, where he utilized his skills to design and...

About The Medium: Screenprint

A stencil process employing a frame on which silk or synthetic fabric is stretched. Stencils are hand-drawn or hand-cut and placed on the stretched fabric and act as a block out when the ink passes through the screen by means of a squeegee onto the paper, the non-stencil areas create the image. Also known as silkscreen or serigraph.
