About the artist:
Janet Indick is a contemporary sculptor who explores the expressive possibilities of steel and other metals and is adept at designing site-specific abstract sculptures. Her work has been exhibited in many solo and invitational exhibitions at museums, galleries, and colleges in New York, New Jersey, and abroad. Her sculptures have been shown alongside works by such artists as Picasso, Miro, Moore, Segal, and Stella.
Corporations, synagogues, and private clients have commissioned and collected her sculpture for walls and both indoor and outdoor sites. Her sculptures are in the corporate collections of Towers-Perrin (New York, NY); Myron Manufacturing Corporation (Maywood, NJ) and AMP Corporation (Lancaster, PA); International Sculpture Center's Collection III.
Sculptures on Jewish themes are in the collections of the North Shore Synagogue, (Syosset, NY); the Teaneck (NJ) Jewish Center,; Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel (South Orange, NJ); Temple Beth Rishon (Wyckoff, NJ), and Franklin Lakes (NJ)Public Schools.
Sculptures in museum collections include the Jane Voorhees Zimmerili Art Museum at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ); Rutgers University, Kilmer Library,(Livingston, NJ Campus); Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY); CUNY, Macaulay Honors College, NYC, and the Bergen Museum (Paramus, NJ); Yeshiva University Museum, NYC.
She is a recipient of many sculpture national and international awards including a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship, a Medal of Honor in Sculpture from the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, and a Manhattan Arts International Award. In 2011, Indick was inducted into The Hunter College Hall of Fame; The Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievement Award 2017.
Janet Indick is listed in many reference books including Contemporary Women Artists, The Dictionary of American Sculptors; Women Artists in America, Sculpture Fundamentals; and Who's Who in American Art; Contemporary Women Artists; Women Artists in America 1988; Best American Sculptors 2012; Mantel Fielding's Dictionary of American Painters, Sculptors, and Engravers, 1986.
Among her reviews, Eileen Watkins, art critic for The Newark Star-Ledger, wrote: "Indick's maquettes convey themes of nature and architectural grandeur."
Janet Indick studied with Robert Motherwell and Richard Pousette-Dart. She graduated from Hunter College in New York and continued her post-graduate work at The New School.
She served as President (1997-1999) of the National Association of Women Artists (founded 1889) and is Jury Chairperson for the New York Society of Women Artists, Advisor to St. James Press, a member of the Advisory Board for CLW Art Club and N.A.W.A., and the Teaneck, New Jersey, Arts Advisory Council.
