Johannes ('Georg') Ruijter (1913 - 1982) was an Amsterdam painter and graphical designer. In 1928 he trained to be an art teacher and afterwards studied art from 1933 till 1937 at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. After graduating, the artist lived in Haarlem and Friesland for five years. After this period, he returned to Amsterdam. He painted landscapes, still lifes and portraits. His style was figurative at first but gradually it became more geometrical and abstract, and after 1958 concrete. Ruijter was a member of De Onafhankelijken and of the artists' society St.-Lucas.
