About the artist:

John Dugan was born in Bromley, Kentucky in 1918. He was a 1952 graduate of the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He studied under prominent artists Joseph Albers, Paul Chidlaw, Arthur Helwig, John Weis, Herbert Barnett, and Ben Shahn. He received the Elizabeth Nourse Scholarship from the Academy. He worked as an art restoration specialist at Closson’s Art Gallery in Cincinnati for twenty-five years, and he held two one man shows there. Subjects he painted included riverboat scenes, landscapes, wildlife, and Indians. His works are in many public institutions including the Cincinnati Art Museum Association, the Cincinnati Club, University Club, Bell Telephone Company, and the First National Bank of Cincinnati.
