John T. Bentley: A late nineteenth century architectural etcher, John Bentley worked in both America and Europe. Many of his original etchings are views of famous cathedrals, both interior and exterior scenes. Besides completing this large etching, Bentley was also commissioned by Charles Klackner to create several etchings of Westminster Abbey, London, in 1893. The New York publisher, Charles Klackner, issued proof impressions signed by his artists and designers. These included Winslow Homer, William Magrath, James S. King, John Bentley and Leon Moran. The majority of Remarque Proof impressions printed by Klackner were usually limited to small editions of twenty-five. This is probably the case with Cathedral View with an Interior.
