Honduran (1906–1983)
This view of a small town in the Honduran hills with a white church rising in the distance is a recurring motif in the work of artist Jose Antonio Velasquez.
Once a booming silver-mining hub, this town had quieted down significantly by the time the artist arrived to take over as the telegram operator. He became a beloved figure, not just for sending and receiving messages from out of town, but also as a painter, barber, and later even mayor. This painting is beautifully framed and is signed by the artist in the lower right.
