About the artist:

A master print maker and painter, Zachrisson was born in Panama in 1930. He studied at the Instituto de Bellas Artes in Mexico City from 1953 to 1959, then traveled to Italy to work in the studios of the Accademia Pietro Vanucci. In 1961 he moved to Spain and worked for three years at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. Zachrisson’s etchings, drypoints, lithographs and woodcuts tell stories, mock tradition and criticize society. His fantastic world is peopled by an entourage of monsters, witches and grotesque figures drawn from Panamanian urban folklore, Spanish literature, classical mythology and personal experiences. Zachrisson’s work has been widely exhibited, both in North and South America, Europe and the Middle East and is part of the permanent collections of many museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C., the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Skopje, Yugoslavia. In 1996 he was awarded the prestigious Goya-Aragón Prize in Spain.
