About the artist:

Luis Lopez Loza (Mexico City, August 25, 1939) is a painter, sculptor and Mexican scholar. He has specialized in woodcut. Created by an avant-garde various works with abstract figures and geometric structures. He studied at the School of Painting and Sculpture "La Esmeralda" and at the Higher School of Applied Arts in Mexico City and the Pratt Graphic Art Center in New York. In 1975 he won a Guggenheim Fellowship. Taught courses recorded at the University of Strumica in the former Yugoslavia and Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, Netherlands. He has presented more than forty exhibitions in Mexico, United States, Japan and Spain. Additionally, some of his works are in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, at the National Art Museum of Poland, at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico and the Casa de las Américas in Cuba. In 2009 he was elected member of the Academy of Arts of Mexico, read his speech at the National Museum of San Carlos. Awards and Honors Honorable Mention for the Casa de las Americas in Havana, Cuba in 1966. Woodcut Triennial Prize of Modena, Italy in 1969. Engraving Biennial Award Tokyo, Japan in 1973. National Award Graphic Mexico in 1977. National Prize of Arts and Sciences in the area of Fine Arts from the Federal Government of Mexico in 2010.
