A variation is a common term in various performing styles meant to refer to a planned or choreographed routine.
In this original gouache, pastel, and graphite work on paper by French Modern artist Marc Chagall, two riders can be seen on the back of a white horse, embracing one another as they perform for an unseen crowd. This piece is signed in pencil by the artist and is nicely framed in an ornate gold leaf frame. The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by the Comité Marc Chagall. Provenance: Galerie Felix Vercel, New York. Acquired from the above by the previous owner in March 1988.
