Mark Van Epps

American (19??–1990)

About the artist:

Mark E. Van Epps' images were studies of both natural and man-made elements. An ecologist at heart, his works were a reflection of his love for nature and the environment. With, an uncanny ability to interject an air of mystery and activity into the otherwise commonplace, his images are hypnotic, as if suspended by invisible breezes. Born in Rock Island, Illinois, Van Epps was educated at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago, and continued his studies at the International Education Association in Europe. In addition to the numerous corporate and private acquisitions, The World Federation of United Nations Associations selected Van Epps to create Mask of World Peace, a First Day Cover and limited edition lithograph which was unveiled at a gala reception at the United Nations. Having passed away in November of 1990, Van Epps left behind a body of works that was as tranquil and intriguing as the artist himself. His Florida studio was filled with the elements of nature that so pervaded his paintings and sculptures, while reflecting his love for the environment and the people who inhabited it.
