Maurice Leloir, born November 1, 1853 in Paris, where he died October 7, 1940, is an illustrator, watercolorist, draftsman, printmaker, French writer and collector. Son and pupil of the painter Auguste Leloir and watercolorist Heloise Colin, he exhibited first at the Salon of French artists, he became a member. He participates with many other artists in the School of Crozant in Creuse valleys. Around the 1890s, Maurice Leloir and students flood the picture book, inspired by photographs, accurately representing the costumes and attitudes of the past, much appreciated by bibliophiles market. Prolific illustrator of books, including children, as Richelieu Theodore Cahu, magazines and fans, he founded the Society for the History of Costume in 1907. His brother, Alexandre-Louis Leloir, also an illustrator, was a renowned painter. Guy de Maupassant dedicated to him in 1884 the new Idylle. Launette in 1889, these illustrations are included in a new edition to the library Jules Tallandier, circa 1925 (3 volumes 8vo related question "The masterpieces of the mind").
