Taylor met and photographed Basquiat and his band "Gray" in the late 1970s before joining the band himself. This intense portrait of the artist is part of a portfolio of images Taylor captured in those early days, and is signed, titled, and numbered in pencil by Taylor at the bottom.

Nicholas Taylor (aka Nick Taylor aka DJ High Priest) was born December 8, 1953 in Belleville, Illinois USA. Taylor moved to New York in 1977. 1n January 1979 he photographs an early series of headshots with his friend Jean-Michel Basquiat. In1979 Nick joined Basquiat’s band “Gray” (guitar).
