about President's Parade

In this rendering of a small town in the countryside, Nicky Watanabe depicts a President's Day parade featuring people on horseback, members of a musical band, and even presumably President Woodrow Wilson.

Circling around a central flag pole with the American flag, the parade continues through the town while a train pulls into the station and the sky is filled with airplanes, hot-air balloons, and blimps.

About The Artist: Nicky Watanabe

Watanabe was born in Japan in 1937. Educated there, he graduated college with a degree in Communications. As a result of his initial choice of a career in the television industry, he was sent to the United States to study our production techniques. This experience ultimately led to his decision to relocate to San Francisco in 1972. It was here that Watanabe began painting. About The Medium: Screenprint

A stencil process employing a frame on which silk or synthetic fabric is stretched. Stencils are hand-drawn or hand-cut and placed on the stretched fabric and act as a block out when the ink passes through the screen by means of a squeegee onto the paper, the non-stencil areas create the image. Also known as silkscreen or serigraph.
