About the artist:

Otto Botto, a native of Ragaz Switzerland, studied in Paris, Lucerne, and Munich. He came to the United States in 1922 and quickly achieved recognition in the American Art world. His paintings have been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Carnegie Institute. He has taught at the Brooklyn Musuem and is represented in many private collections. Exhibitions : (one-man shows) Gallery Secession in Paris 1934; Contemporary Arts 1937; Egan Gallery 1946; Tamiment Gallery 1956; New Gallery 1951; Woman's City Club 1958; Atelier Gallery 1968. Awards : Purchase Prize at Riverside Museum in 1963; Prize at Jersey City Museum in 1967. Collections : Art Institute of Chicago; Norfolk Museum; Evansville Museum; Riverside Museum; Ragaz Museum in Switzerland. Exhibitions : Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; San Francisco Palace of Legion of Honor; World's Fair in 1939 (mural); World's Fair 1964. Activities : Instructor Brooklyn Museum Art School; Instructor Country Art School in Westbury, Long Island; Charter Member of Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors. Commissions : Swiss Government to paint mural at New York World's Fiar in 1939.
