Pablo Picasso’s portrait (based on Lucas Cranach the Younger’s "Portrait of a Woman") is emblematic of the artist’s application of Cubism to his work.
Reducing the subjects form to shapes with bold outlines that overlay one another, the artist has fragmented the figure of the woman so that she may be viewed from many perspectives rather than the traditional singular viewpoint. Lithograph by Henri Deschamps after the woodcut, circa 1966.
