About the artist:

Peter Geoffrey Cook was born in New York in 1915. He attended Princeton University where he received a degree in Architecture. He became a student to New Hope's John Dolinsbee when he met Folinsbee's daughter, Joan, whom he married in 1938. He went on to study art in New York at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League. In 1939 he was awarded a Pulitzer Traveling Scholarship, but his trip was cut short by the onset of World War II. The couple made their home in Kingston, New Jersey, across the Delaware River from Bucks County, where his work was exhibited regularly. Known for his Delaware River and Maine coast landscapes, Cook was a portraitist as well. He taught art classes in New York, New Hope, and Princeton. He was elected into the National Academy of Design in 1966. His paintings are in the collections of Harvard and Princeton Universities, the Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, and the United States Navy, among others.
