Rima Mardoyen-Smyth was born in 1956. Of Armenian ethnicity, she grew up in Teheran, Iran, and Hamburg, Germany, where she received her art education, including studying with Sigmar Polke. In 1981 the artist moved to New York City and began exhibiting there. Working today primarily in the encaustic medium, Rima Mardoyen-Smyth currently lives in Sag Harbor, New York, with her husband, sculptor, Ned Smyth.
