Indiana Elliot was a character from the opera by Virgil Thomson to a libretto by Gertrude Stein titled "Mother of us All".
Robert Indiana (American, 1928-2018) designed the costumes for the production twice, in 1967 and 1976. She was one of the multiple characters that were created for the production and not an actual historical figure. One of the main events in the play is her marriage to Jo the Loiterer.
