about The Figure 5 from the American Dream Portfolio

Robert Indiana (American, 1928-2018) created the "American Dream Print Portfolio" in 1997 after working on pieces of the American dream for over 30 years.

Within these prints are bright bold colors and symbols which held various meanings for Indiana. Most prints have circles, stars, numbers or stenciled letters. This print was created after the 1963 painting. Indiana said in an interview with Artspace in 1976 that this image was largely influenced by American artist Charles Demuth and his number five painting.
