Robert Indiana (American, 1928-2018) created the "American Dream Print Portfolio" in 1997 after working on pieces of the American dream for over 30 years.
Within these prints are bright bold colors and symbols which held various meanings for Indiana. Most prints have circles, stars, numbers or stenciled letters. In this print Robert Indiana is pointing out the hypocrisy that is rampant in American politics. Specifically the divorced man he refers to is Nelson Rockefeller, who was the favored Republican candidate in 1961 until his divorce.
