Robert Reid

American (1924–2000)

About the artist:

Born as a native Atlantan, noted for his watercolor landscapes, Robert is one of the featured artiest at Avery Gallery in Marietta, GA. Mr. Reid obtained his art education at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Parsons School of Design in New York City. He made his home in New York City but lived and traveled extensively in France, creating colorful, unique views of the countryside. Although many of his watercolors were painted in France, he also painted scenes around SoHo in New York City, and in Vermont and Illinois. He became a Professor Emeritus of Rhode Island School of Design in 1995. His intent with each watercolor was to create a frame or doorway through which the viewer could enter and experience their own, very emotional response to his personal visual memories. Sketches were never made beforehand but images painted directly on linen paper. His paintings provide a poetry of the land, its color and texture, the feeling of oneness with the environment. For one fleeting moment, nature is captured and preserved so that it is not lost for all time. The beauty, mystery, and timelessness of nature has forever been captured under the artful eye of Robert Reid.
