Roman Cieslewicz was born in Lvov, Poland /now Ukraine/ in 1930, died of a heart attack in Paris on January 21, 1996. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1955. Having arrived in France in 1963, he became a naturalized French citizen in 1971. Since then he has worked for many publishers of books and periodicals either as graphic artist or as art director, including: Ty i JA /1959-1963/, Elle /1965-69/ and the advertising agency MAFIA /1969-1972/. He also created the graphic design for the magazines Opus International/1967-1969/, Kitsch/1970-71/ and Cnac-archives/1971-74/. Since 1963 he was worked with Julliard, Jean-Jacques Pauvert, Claude Tchou/1964/, Christian Bourgois/1968-76/, Musee des Arts Decoratifs/1972,1980/, Hachette/1973/, Centre Georges Pompidou/1975-83/, Festival d'Automne/1976-77/, La Revue du XXe Siecle/1976-77/, Ketschum/1982/, Hazan/1983/, Denoel/1983/, Galeries Lafayette/1984/, Musee Picasso/1985/. In 1976 he produced his "reviev of panic information" - "Kamikaze"/No. 1/, published by Christian Bourgois, followed in 1991 "Kamikaze 2" with Agnes B. Since 1956, Cieslewicz has taken part in numerous group exhibitions of graphic, poster and photographic art. Since 1975 he has taught at the Ecole Superieure d'Arts Graphiques /ESAG/ in Paris. He was a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale.
