Salvador Dalí’s (Spanish, 1904-1989) "Breathing, Pneumatic Armchair" is a creation by the artist of a divine chair that would calm and comfort the sitter, breathing deeply as we do when trying to achieve a level head.

It features collage and etching as well as lithography. This print is from the “Imagination and Objects of the Future” portfolio which is filled with Dalí’s whimsical inventions of future conveniences and luxuries, which were based on his extensive studies of science, biology, and math, among other subjects.

Salvador Dalí was born in May 11, 1904 in the small agricultural town of Figueres, Spain. Figueres is located in the foothills of the Pyrenees, only sixteen miles from the French border in the principality of Catalonia. The son of a prosperous notary, Salvador Dalí spent his boyhood in Figueres and at the family's summer home in the coastal fishing village of Cadaques where his parents built his first studio.
