About the artist:

Gierke's work was exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago alongside Robert Natkin and many other renowned Chicago artists in 1959, 1960 and 1961. In 1959, Gierke was awarded the first place William and Bertha Clausmann prize for her work exhibited at The Art Institute of Chicago.
