An iconic poster by Saul Steinberg of a New Yorker’s View from Manhattan towards Europe.

The streets and avenues of Manhattan take up a majority of the composition, with a small sliver dedicated to Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island. In the distance past the Atlantic Ocean, Ireland, England, France, and Africa can barely be seen.

About The Artist: Saul Steinberg

Born in Romania, he lived most of his life in New York, becoming a well-known 20th-century comic illustrator and philosopher, who used a variety of mediums including collage and mural painting. He is perhaps most famous for his poster of the New Yorker whose shortsighted view of the world causes the cityscape of Manhattan to be the landmark from which everything else recedes.
