Soni Wallace masters color and form in this Abstract Expressionist painting.
Many works from this period in her life reflect coastal landscapes through a lens of minimalism and geometric form. These abstract sailboats sail against a golden sky, together representing freedom from the bondage of the Nazi invasion which killed Wallace’s family, and from which she escaped with her father, mother, and brother. She captured the free spirit in many of her pieces which depicted in their motion the many moves when she escaped to England from Poland. The painting is signed on the verso.
