About The Artist: Sotero Cosme

Painter, draftsman, printmaker, cartoonist and musician. Sotero Cosme (1905: Porto Alegre, RS - 1978: Paris, France). Brother of two musicians, Julio Grau and Luis Cosme, attended the early Conservatory of Music in Porto Alegre. The violin-playing has opened the doors to play in orchestras that accompanied silent films of the projection. About The Medium: Woodcut

A relief process in which the image is cut in a block of wood with tools such as knives, goughers or chisels. The image is inked with a roller, paper is applied to the surface and the back is then rubbed by hand or with a rubbing tool, transferring the image to the paper.
