Stefan Vladescu

Romanian/American (1952)

About the artist:

Born in Romania, Vladescu was introduced to sculpture as a young child. As Vladescu’s affection for art and sculpture grew, his parents enrolled him in the School for Plastic Arts in Bucharest, Romania. Due to his parents’ professions, Vladescu had an opportunity to travel and live in many countries including Israel, France, Martinique, and finally the United States. While traveling he continued his formal studies in art—ultimately receiving an MFA from the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY in 1987. Vladescu’s sculptures have recently been exhibited in a group show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, NY; an annual public outdoor sculpture exhibition, Art in the Heart of the City, in Ithaca, NY; and at the Agora Gallery in Chelsea, New York City, NY. In a classic vein, “Dana” is an excellent real female torso, while one of the strata abstractions originates from a torso.” - John Slater, ARTspeak, from 1993 review of “THE HUMAN FAÇADE” “Stefan M. Vladescu is a sculptor whose bronze and steel structures reveal both an assured technical mastery of his medium and respect for the potential inherent in his materials.”- Agora Gallery
