About The Artist: Vincent Capraro

Vincent Capraro was born in Manhattan; his parents had immigrated from Italy. He attended City College of the City University of New York. He graduated in 1942 then enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps attaining the rank of Captain. From 1946 to 1949 he attended Hans Hofmann's School of Fine Arts in Greenwich Village and then moved to Italy and exhibited at the 1952 Venice Biennale and in 1953 at the Museum of Modern Art in Rome. About The Medium: Aquatint

An etching process in which tone is created by treating a plate with fine particles of acid resistant material (like powder resin) and then placing the plate in an acid bath. The acid bites into the plate between the grains of resin and when printed, the mass of tiny spots produces a textured area with tonal effects similar to watercolor wash.
