About The Artist: Walter Valentini

Walter Valentini was born in Pergola (Pesaro). Valentini lived in Rome from 1947 to 1948 and in 1949 moved to Milan, where he had Max Huber, Albe Steiner and Luigi Veronesi as his teachers. In 1950 he moved from Lombardy to Urbino, where he lived until 1955 and where he attended the Institute of Fine Arts (Scuola del libro). It is here that he discovered the art of engraving. About The Medium: Aquatint

An etching process in which tone is created by treating a plate with fine particles of acid resistant material (like powder resin) and then placing the plate in an acid bath. The acid bites into the plate between the grains of resin and when printed, the mass of tiny spots produces a textured area with tonal effects similar to watercolor wash.
